Sharon McMahon
Sharon McMahon says she used to be a history teacher but I would argue she still is. Now, more than ever! She’s been called “America’s Government Teacher” and has a podcast, “Here’s Where It Gets Interesting”, and viral Instagram account called “SharonSaysSo”, where she provides “fascinating information about US politics and history in the most entertaining way possible.” If McMahon hadn’t chosen these platforms to share her genius, I could see her with a hugely successful career in stand-up. She is very very funny. But sophisticathered funny. Which I would describe more as “clever” actually. I do laugh out loud at her content and especially her delivery though.
I can count on three fingers the sources I will give my attention Oto when it comes to anything political, and Sharon McMahon is now at the very top of that list. Coincidentally, she lives in Minnesota, the same state where I reside. I live in the city. She does not. And if you’re lucky you’ll get a glimpse of the beautiful Deluth and Lake Superior areas on her IG posts.
What makes Sharon McMahon different? She offers little to no opinion on almost all subjects. She simply delivers the facts. I love this. Imagine that — actual facts. A while back I had been following another political “expert” on IG but when we disagreed on something, just one time, he was rude and condescending with his remarks. Granted, he didn’t care whether I continued to follow him, but until that point we had many productive exchanges via direct message. He’s bright, extremely well-informed, but as is the case nowadays, apparently has great difficulty when someone disagrees with him. McMahon, on the other hand, will ignore comments or respond with an intelligent, well-thought-out rebuttal showing just how wrong you are. With facts. I love this about her and, of course, the entertainment value. She knows how to use the camera. Often, she’ll even apply her daily make-up as she speaks right to you. It really feels like you’re in the same room with her!
Give her a try and report back whether you agree she’s awesome and just what we need. And don’t worry, if you don’t think she’s the best, I won’t hold it against you!
Oh and I almost forgot — she and Governerds just raised over $4 million to help pay off medical debt. You can read about it here:
