If nothing else, go to Grill 23 & Bar in Boston for dessert and espresso martinis! That’s exactly what we did. We haven’t been back yet to enjoy the full menu, but we will.

Recently, we did what I am sure many miss out on at this great restaurant — we had dessert! I’d heard about the coconut cake and espresso martini and made it a goal to go just for dessert sometime. So glad we did! (I’ve always thought you can tell the quality of a restaurant by two things — the dessert menu and the restrooms.) We were celebrating my daughter’s recent promotion and I believe we could not have chosen a better place to toast a very happy time in her career. I’m a baker and very selective when it comes to dessert and I have to say the coconut cake was perfection. Extremely fresh! And the coconut ice cream it’s served with… oh my!! My daughter wants to go back just for the espresso martini! I almost forgot to mention the chocolate cake — it too was absolutely divine! We sat in the bar by the window. Zack served us. You’d think we were a party of six ordering multiple courses and an expensive bottle of wine, the way he treated us. This young man is a true professional and Grill 23 & Bar is lucky to have him! What a night! We’ll be back and I’ll definitely be blogging about our experience. This restaurant deserves a 5 Heart Rating! When you go to Grill 23, I recommend you save room for dessert or just eat it first!

Though I am not usually a meat-eater, every few years I will indulge in a steak or prime rib if I know the restaurant has a great and I mean GREAT reputation. This is just such a restaurant. It was a top recommendation made by a new friend whom I would consider a pretty good restaurant critic and has lived in the Boston area his whole life. Every recommendation he has made so far has been spot on. But this one in particular is a real stand-out.

I prefer to eat in or at the bar but the restaurant is huge and I am sure any table is a good one. Oh one more thing, servers wear white. I’ve always loved this for some reason.

Here’s their website. Be sure to make a reservation if you’d like to dine in the actual restaurant. The bar is first-come-first-served. We really lucked out because the whole place was full except the high-top where we sat right next to the window. Might be the best table in the place!
