Detroit Metro Airport
Detroit Airport is my favorite airport in the United States. This 5 Heart Rating is based solely on one experience of a layover at DTW. I still have not visited the actual city of Detroit, but really want to! If the city is anything like the airport, I know I will enjoy it. Plus, there’s just so much history!
I will admit I have actually consciously avoided DTW for plane changes. Why? I have no idea. But the one time I didn’t really have a choice, I found myself making my way through this great airport, encountering wonderful airport personnel, eating some really good food, and just enjoying the beautiful atmosphere of this well-designed, spotless airport.
I could not agree more with the very first review I see when Googling DTW: “Very nice architecture, gorgeous calming fountain with great views of planes. The tram is a great [way]to get around the airport quickly if you’re pressed for time. The LED tunnel looks awesome but sadly it was under renovation when I passed through so it was only working at minimum. Beautiful large open spaces and very well renovated.”
Fortunately, I did get to experience the tunnel. I imagine kids love this experience. This big kid sure did!
I’m not surprised another review mentions the friendliness of the airport personnel: “We stopped for a connecting flight and were greeted by some friendly and professional employees who offered to take us to our next gate, which was on the other side of the airport.”
DTW has the exact same Google review rating as my other favorite US airport, MSP. They both are rated 4.3. I give them both 5 Hearts!!
