2 True Stories: “The Wager” and “Society of the Snow”
“Society of the Snow”, brilliantly directed by J.A. Bayona, is a movie on Netflix about members of a Uruguayan rugby team whose plane crashed in the remote heart of the Andes Mountains in 1972. Survivors join forces and become each other’s best hope as they navigate their way back home.
“The Wager”, is a non-fiction, Times Best Book of the Year written by David Grann. Yes, that David Grann — the same author of “Flowers of the Killer Moon”. Contrasting with “Society of the Snow”, “The Wager” is a page-turning story of shipwreck, survival, and savagery.
I decided to include both of the above in one 5 Heart Rating because 1) I watched the movie and listened to the book on audio virtually at the same time, 2) the fact that both stories involve a “crash” of sorts, and 3) I was captivated by both pieces of history and their seemingly opposite display of human behavior.
If youghtu watch and/or read, please let me know your thoughts in the comments.
